At the base of Costa Rica’s highest peak, Chirripó, lies the Corazón de Jesús Micromill – a family-run project founded in 2015 by the Alvarado Fonseca family. With a vision to elevate the art of specialty coffee, they cultivate Catuai, Caturra, Red Bourbon, and Typica on their fertile land in the Brunca region, experimenting with diverse processing methods such as washed, red honey, natural, natural-fermented, and anaerobic.
This innovative approach has quickly gained recognition, culminating in a 2nd place win at the Costa Rica Cup of Excellence 2024 – a testament to their passion and precision.
For this natural Catuai lot, ripe cherries are handpicked and dried slowly on raised beds for 15–20 days, then carefully rested for two months before milling and export. The result is a filter coffee that embodies the richness of Brunca’s volcanic soil and the family’s dedication.
In the cup, expect a vibrant, wine-like acidity that makes the flavors come alive – from juicy cherry and ripe plum to a deep, lingering dark chocolate finish. The balance of fruit and sweetness creates a lively, memorable brew that highlights both terroir and craftsmanship.
Perfect for filter brewing, this coffee is a celebration of Costa Rica’s innovation and tradition in specialty coffee.
